Knox Marine Consultants is a marine survey firm specializing in damage survey and investigation. The company’s headquarters is in Richmond, Virginia, with field offices in the Virginia Beach-Norfolk, Virginia area and Beaufort, North Carolina.

Steve Knox, the company president and principal surveyor, investigates boating accidents throughout the eastern United States. He also provides expert assistance in cases involving the construction or repair of pleasure boats, such as warranty claims. Steve, a long time marine surveyor, is a licensed Professional Engineer. He is one of about a dozen marine surveyors certified as an Accredited Senior Appraiser. He was one of the first Certified Marine Investigators in the country.

Val Lippa runs the Norfolk office. He is an experienced marine surveyor who is a SAMS-AMS. Val is a retired naval officer with extensive experience in vessel inspection and repair. He served as Chief Engineer on several ships and holds an Unlimited Chief Engineer – Steam license.

Jon Roop runs the office in Beaufort, North Carolina. He is an experienced surveyor who is a SAMS-AMS and NAMS-CMS. Jon has sailed thousands of miles, including a circumnavigation. He has operated, maintained, and surveyed all types and sizes of sailboats and power yachts.

The Norfolk office handles damage survey assignments in southeastern Virginia, including the eastern shore, and northeastern North Carolina. The office in Richmond covers the rest of Virginia as well as Maryland. The Beaufort office covers all of North Carolina and South Carolina.

With the addition of Jon Roop in Beaufort, Knox Marine now offers damage survey services from the northern end of the Chesapeake Bay south through the Carolinas.

Knox Marine also provides training for our insurance company clients on a variety of boat related topics.
