2006 Yacht Claims Conference

Company Profile

Company Information

Knox Marine Consultants investigates boating accidents and provides damage surveys and litigation support for marine claims. They also offer training programs for underwriters, adjusters, and marine surveyors.

Steve Knox founded the company in 1987. Since then, the firm has become one of the premier marine surveying firms in the United States. Most of the company's claims business is local (i.e. from Deltaville, Virginia to Hatteras, North Carolina). Knox's accident investigations, however, have taken him to Halifax, Key West, Michigan, Athens, Greece, and many locations between. Although Knox Marine's annual Yacht Claims Conference is held in Norfolk, Virginia, Knox has taught all over the country.

Knox, the firm's President, is a writer whose work appears regularly in the boating press. His articles have appeared in Yachting, SAIL, Cruising World, National Fisherman, Work Boat, and several regional publications. Almost all his writings are technical in nature — how-it-works or how-to-do it articles. He currently writes a column for Chesapeake Bay Magazine. His columns won The Boating Writer's International Award for Best Technical Writing in 2000 and Second Place for Boat/Engine Care and Maintenance in 2001.

Knox Marine’s headquarters is strategically located in Richmond, Virginia, right in the heart of the mid-Atlantic. The company owns an airplane and Knox is an instrument rated pilot. He frequently flies himself on assingments. Travel in the company aircraft is faster and cheaper than commercial air to most destinations east of the Mississippi River. Richmond also has excellent airline service. Knox Marine also has an office in Norfolk, Virginia, to provide damage surveys for our insurance company clients.
